The piano action has many moving parts which break on occasion. Minor repairs are common such as re-gluing broken or loose action parts, and replacing missing parts. Sometimes the action of the piano may need to be removed for a more extensive repair.
If the piano action is removed all screws are tightened and the bass strings are loosened, removed and twisted to bring new life to the strings. The bass bridge is inspected for and cracks and repaired. The action is inspected and all moving parts are tightened and re-glued. The hammers of the piano are tightened and filed so the grooves are now smooth.
